Parents and caregivers of children with asthma can now access educational materials referred to as “Asthma Education 101” being offered by the Ministry of Health and Social Development to assist in the management of asthma.

The asthma educational series which was officially launched in April is designed to empower parents and children with knowledge and tools to effectively manage asthma. It includes asthma fast facts for parents and children ages 6 to 11, asthma facts and activity book for teenagers and an asthma colouring and workbook for children ages 3 to 5.

 Chief of Drugs and Pharmaceutical Services, Mrs. Gracia Wheatley-Smith said if used as intended, the series offers a wealth of information that could be beneficial to adults and children to effectively treat and control the condition.

The Chief said that asthmatics and caregivers of children with asthma are encouraged to use the publications and other tools to better manage the lung disease in a manner which will result in the reduction of attacks and hospital visits. 

 Mrs. Wheatley Smith added, “I want to express my appreciation to Summit Printing, Collins Ltd of Barbados and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, Pharmaceutical Procurement Service in St. Lucia for their generous contribution towards the printing of the series.
