Statement

Release Date: 22 June, 2026

I was deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Sarah Penney, a much-loved member of the Virgin Islands community.

Sarah’s passion for dance and the arts enriched the lives of so many. Through her work with Firebird Performing Arts Studio, she inspired young people across the Territory, nurturing confidence, creativity and joy. I remember with great fondness her leading a large group, dancing the Charleston at the Great Catsby event at Government House, raising funds for the Humane Society, earlier this year - a moment that so vividly captured her energy, passion and spirit.

Sarah was also a committed advocate for the environment. Through her leadership with Green V.I., she championed sustainability and conservation, helping to raise awareness and foster a stronger sense of shared responsibility for the natural beauty of these islands. That work leaves a lasting legacy, reflected not only in the initiatives she supported, but in the many people she inspired to care more deeply for their environment.

She had an enormous impact across the whole community.  We all feel her loss deeply.

I extend my heartfelt condolences at this difficult time to her husband, son, family, friends, students and all those whose lives she touched.
