The Government of the Virgin Islands has approved the merger of the Water and Sewerage Department and the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) as the Virgin Islands Energy and Water Corporation (ViewCo). The merger between the two entities enables the use of existing and well-established systems, practices, and strategic partnerships. The merger of Water and Sewerage Department (WSD) and BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) consolidates energy, water and sewerage services into a single statutory body responsible for these services across the Territory as one united organisation while internally operating through three service divisions. The functions of the Corporation shall be: a) The generation, transmission, supply, distribution and sale of electricity; b) The production, supply, distribution, storage and sale of water and; c) The collection, treatment and disposal of sewerage, within the Virgin Islands and to perform services incidental there to. The Government of the Virgin Islands is seeking qualifed persons to fill the following positions: BOARD MEMBERS of the VIRGIN ISLANDS ENERGY AND WATER CORPORATION (VIEWCo). The Ministry of Communications and Works is desirous of appointing members with experience in electricity, water services, finance, law, business or commerce and civil society to the Virgin Islands Energy and Water Corporation’s Board. Persons applying to serve on the Board should have the professional competencies that exemplify integrity, respect and a balance of skills and experience that match the purpose, mission and values of the Board. VIRGIN ISLANDS ENERGY AND WATER CORPORATION BOARD The Board shall act in the best interests of the Corporation, having regard to its objectives and obligations, be responsible for the direction and general administration of the affairs of the Corporation and shall: a) ensure that the Corporation operates in accordance with the Act and on a sound commercial basis; b) oversee the administration and management of the Corporation; c) approve major policies, programmes and capital projects of the Corporation; d) ensure that adequate systems of financial management, internal control and accountability are maintained; and e) perform such other functions as are assigned to it under the Act or any other enactment BOARD MEMBERS Board Members must have commercial experience and acumen within a substantial private sector business or past public sector experience ideally from the relevant field of expertise. THE IDEAL CANDIDATES EMBODY THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES: Since most of the work of the Board will be done during regularly scheduled meetings, the competencies required for an executive Board Member include the ability to: a) Possess the requisite leadership skills and experience in sectors directly relevant to the Board's functions and responsibilities. Clearly understand the industry and the needs of its stakeholders. b) Capable and willing to attend scheduled Board meetings, and actively contribute to the discussion. c) Attend meetings and make a substantial active contribution to Board deliberations. Share recommendations on how the Board can enhance the effective performance of its functions and mandate. d) Partner with Board Members to ensure that all Board resolutions are carried out and that actions to achieve the Board's strategic goals are successfully undertaken. e) Develop a good working relationship with other Board members and contribute to the Board's working relationship with the senior management of the Corporation. f) Demonstrate a commitment to confidentiality and good corporate governance. g) Think strategically, manage complexity and act decisively. h) Demonstrate ability and willingness to work effectively and collaboratively in a group. i) Possess an innovative spirit and the ability to think out of the box.
