Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley has been elected President of the UK Overseas Territories Association (UKOTA) and President of the Political Council. He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing challenges like climate change and economic resilience. Ms. Tracy Bradshaw, the UK Representative and Director of the BVI London Office, has been appointed Chair of UKOTA. The leadership change highlights a renewed commitment to collaborative governance and advocating for the interests of all UK Overseas Territories. UKOTA serves as a forum to promote dialogue and ensure equitable representation for all territories, especially smaller ones.

Premier Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley announced the completion and submission of the Government of the Virgin Islands’ Self-Assessment Report on the implementation of the 2022 Commission of Inquiry (COI) recommendations. This report, along with the Governor’s final review and public submissions, will help the UK determine whether to lift the Order in Council which allows for potential direct rule. The Premier confirmed that 46 of 48 recommendations have been completed, with the remaining two requiring external constitutional or judicial action. He also introduced the Governance Reform Transition Plan to guide continued implementation and public education. Dr. Wheatley expressed gratitude to all involved and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to stronger self-governance and ongoing reform.

In recent weeks, the Marine Safety Investigation and Reporting Authority (MSIRA) has recorded a significant number of vessel-grounding incidents, and the Chief Marine Accident Investigator in the Premier’s Office, Mr. Jerome Padmore, is calling on all vessel owners and operators to heighten their vigilance while sailing in Virgin Islands waters.
The Cabinet of the Virgin Islands convened on April 2, 2025, chaired by His Excellency Governor Daniel Pruce. All members attended except the Ministers for Communications and Works, and Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, who were abroad on official duties. The meeting was held in the Premier’s Conference Room.
