His Excellency the Governor, Daniel Pruce, spoke at a Rotary Club of Tortola meeting on security in the Virgin Islands. He emphasized that security is a shared responsibility and that community involvement, like the work of Rotary and other volunteer organizations, is crucial in preventing crime and creating positive pathways for youth. He also discussed the role of the National Security Council (NSC) in addressing security challenges and improving collaboration across various agencies. The Governor highlighted the importance of supporting law enforcement, including the relaunch of Crimestoppers, and efforts to enhance the criminal justice system, including improving prison conditions and rehabilitation. He stressed that security is fundamental to the Virgin Islands' prosperity and that collective action is necessary to tackle the complex security issues the territory faces. The Governor expressed optimism about making progress on security challenges by the end of the year.

Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, Honourable Sharie de Castro, has announced that HLSCC graduates with degrees accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education can now enter directly into the third year of a bachelor’s programme at Richmond American University in London. This opportunity follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding during a recent UK visit, where the minister and HLSCC President Dr. Richard Georges attended the Education World Forum. Honourable de Castro highlighted the challenges posed by rising U.S. tuition costs and visa uncertainties, noting that Virgin Islanders qualify as home students in the UK, paying significantly lower tuition fees. The partnership with Richmond University, which shares the same accreditation body as HLSCC, ensures smooth credit transfers and a more affordable, efficient pathway to completing undergraduate studies abroad.

The Virgin Islands Government has introduced a digital Embarkation/Disembarkation (ED) Card system, effective from January 1. This new system, led by Acting Chief Immigration Officer Mrs. Nadia Demming-Hodge, aims to streamline traveler processing and improve data collection for border security and tourism policies. Travelers can complete the ED Card online at bviedcard.gov.vg up to 72 hours before travel. Upon completion, they will receive an email with a barcode for presentation to Immigration and Customs. The Department of Immigration plans to further enhance services, including initiatives for charter vessels and aircrafts to reduce wait times.
