The Ministry of Health and Social Development’s partnership with His Majesty’s Prison has led to improved waste disposal and environmental sustainability at the facility. Following a Senior Management Team meeting chaired by Permanent Secretary Ms. Tasha Bertie, the Departments of Waste Management and HM Prisons addressed waste removal challenges, resulting in the reinstatement of a dedicated garbage bin that has enhanced cleanliness and safety. They are also collaborating to boost recycling efforts and reduce landfill waste, inspired by a recent visit to the Island’s Eco Park by prison staff and inmates, which sparked ideas to integrate recycling into daily prison routines for environmental responsibility and inmate rehabilitation. Superintendent Kendall praised the teamwork and thanked the Waste Management Director and Green VI for their support, highlighting the positive impact on prison conditions. The Ministry commends this cooperation and encourages other agencies to adopt similar joint efforts to improve services and promote a greener Virgin Islands.
