To celebrate International Museum Day 2025, the Virgin Islands Department of Culture is hosting workshops to strengthen museum practices and ensure the long-term relevance of the Territory’s cultural institutions. Under the theme “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities,” the initiative brings together professionals to address key areas such as mission development, collections policies, artefact care, and disaster preparedness. A specialised workshop from June 2 to 13 will focus on helping museums create tailored disaster plans. The Department, led by Dr. Katherine Smith, invites public interest and remains dedicated to preserving and promoting the Virgin Islands’ rich cultural heritage through education, research, and community engagement.

Wheatley, Minister for Health and Social Development, officially launched Vaccination Week in the Americas 2025, emphasizing the theme “Your Decision Makes a Difference: Immunisation for All.” He highlighted the critical role of vaccines in protecting public health, preventing diseases like measles, and safeguarding vulnerable groups such as children, expectant mothers, and the elderly. The leadership change highlights a renewed commitment to collaborative governance and advocating for the interests of all UK Overseas Territories. UKOTA serves as a forum to promote dialogue and ensure equitable representation for all territories, especially smaller ones.

On April 15, 2025, the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) held a successful diplomatic meeting in St. Thomas to strengthen maritime collaboration. Leaders from both territories agreed on a revised charter vessel fee structure and committed to forming a joint marine task force to improve regional policy, port efficiency, and coastal protection. The BVI is advancing legislation to modernize its maritime sector through amendments to the Commercial Recreational Vessel Licensing Act. The updated charter fees reflect regional cooperation and industry feedback, supporting a sustainable and prosperous charter tourism industry.
