He emphasized that this marks a significant milestone for the territory's healthcare and education sectors. For the first time, students can study medicine locally at an internationally accredited institution, with the program starting on July 28, 2025. The medical school will offer affordable education, provide scholarships, and contribute to the local economy through increased tourism, air connectivity, and job creation. Premier Wheatley also highlighted the long-term benefits of the school’s establishment, such as improving healthcare, supporting edu-tourism, and creating future growth opportunities in various sectors.

The Virgin Islands Secures Top-Tier Recognition at Inaugural CPDMA The Government of the Virgin Islands has been recognised as the top-three regional leader in public debt management at the inaugural Commonwealth Public Debt Management Awards. This achievement underscores the Territory’s growing strength in fiscal governance and economic resilience.
Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, Honourable Sharie de Castro, has announced the launch of two key initiatives—the Steering Group on Student Wellbeing and a multi-agency Task Force on Student Support and Intervention—to tackle rising student misconduct across the Virgin Islands. Highlighting troubling data presented to the National Security Council, the minister outlined a comprehensive Framework for Student Support and Wellbeing, which includes expanded counselling, social-emotional learning, teacher training, and alternative education options. School-level efforts such as the Student Behaviour Committee at Bregado Flax Educational Centre and the BEAM Programme at Elmore Stoutt High School are already making strides in supporting at-risk students. These national and community-driven interventions aim to address root causes of behavioral issues and ensure holistic student development across the Territory.
