Governor Daniel Pruce is inviting public feedback on the Commission of Inquiry (COI) reforms, which will be reported to UK Overseas Territories Minister Stephen Doughty MP to guide future decisions. A public survey and dedicated mailbox have been set up for this purpose, with a deadline of March 2nd. Governor Pruce encouraged the public to share their views and experiences. Minister Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley highlighted the importance of cervical cancer screening and early detection during Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. He urged women aged 21 to 65 to schedule regular screenings every 3-5 years. The Ministry of Health is promoting prevention, early detection, and education to combat cervical cancer. Dr. Arliene T. Penn, in partnership with Unite BVI, is offering free screenings until January 31. Cervical cancer is a leading cause of death for women globally, with higher mortality rates in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Ministry is committed to improving public health.

The Government of the Virgin Islands has re-established the Financial Services Appeal Board (FSAB) to promote transparency and fairness in the financial services sector. The FSAB, responsible for handling appeals related to the Financial Services Commission’s decisions, has appointed new members, including Ms. Arabella Di Iorio as Chairman, Mrs. Hazel-Ann Hannaway Boreland as Deputy Chairman, and Ms. Brittney Smith as a member. Ms. Rennea A. Powell has been appointed Secretary to the Board. The government is also seeking to fill four additional positions. The FSAB aims to ensure a well-regulated financial services sector. The Government of the Virgin Islands has announced its new Policy on Rights of Access to the Register of Beneficial Ownership for BVI Business Companies and Limited Partnerships, marking a key step in strengthening corporate transparency and combating financial crime. Following extensive stakeholder consultations, the policy allows any party with a legitimate AML, CFT, or CPF purpose to request beneficial ownership information—limited to individuals owning or controlling 25% or more—via the secure VIRRGIN platform. Companies are notified of requests and can manage objections or appeals before data release, while beneficial owners may apply for exemptions. The policy builds on major recent legislative and technological reforms and balances the need for transparency with protecting individual privacy and maintaining a business-friendly environment. Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley and Minister Lorna Smith praised the policy as a thoughtful, balanced approach that enhances the BVI’s role as a responsible international finance centre committed to deterring illicit finance globally.

Early childhood facilities in the Virgin Islands are urged to follow proper hand hygiene practices to prevent the spread of common childhood diseases, especially from November to March. Acting Chief Environmental Health Officer, Ms. Henrietta Alexander, recommends frequent handwashing, cleaning high-touch surfaces, and keeping sick children at home. The House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands mourns the loss of Mrs. Eileene Lucia Parsons, OBE, a pioneering leader and devoted public servant. Mrs. Parsons broke barriers as the first woman Minister in the Virgin Islands, serving with distinction as Minister for Health, Education and Welfare, Deputy Premier, and Deputy Speaker. Throughout her life, she remained deeply engaged in public service, including advising on the 75th Anniversary of the Restoration of Parliament. Her profound contributions to the social, cultural, and political fabric of the Territory leave an enduring legacy of integrity, professionalism, and dedication.
