On June 12, 2025, the Government of the Virgin Islands signed a US$370,000 contract with Trojan Design and Development Ltd for the design and construction management of a new 12,000 sq. ft. Immigration Detention Centre. Funded through a $100 million loan facility with CIBC and led by the Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) in partnership with the Ministry of Financial Services, the project aims to strengthen national security while upholding human rights standards. The Government of the Virgin Islands, through the Attorney General’s Chambers, is inviting qualified legal practitioners and consultants to submit Expressions of Interest for inclusion on a Panel of Legal Practitioners & Consultants. The Panel will provide a range of legal services including drafting, civil litigation, advisory, and specialist consultancy across various practice areas such as constitutional law, commercial law, legislative drafting, and more. Cyber specialists funded by the UK Government, in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology (DoIT), conducted a national cyber security risk assessment (NCRA) and training programme in the Virgin Islands. The training, held from March 17-21, focused on improving security for critical infrastructure in sectors like government, health, and energy. DoIT is now equipped to conduct annual assessments to mitigate risks and support further investment in cyber security. The Ministry of Health and Social Development has launched the Virgin Islands Eat Well Guide and Dietary Guidelines to improve public health and reduce chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Introduced by Minister Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley, the guide outlines five essential food groups and encourages balanced nutrition, food security, and the use of locally grown foods. It will serve as a standard in schools, healthcare, and policymaking, supported by health campaigns and partnerships with food vendors.
