The Ministry of Health and Social Development has reaffirmed its commitment to engaging with and supporting the well-being of senior citizens following a meaningful visit with the OASIS (Older Adults Sharing in Service) Seniors Group in the Second District.
The National Security Council (NSC) met on February 5, 2025, with Minister for Education, Youth Affairs, and Sports Honourable Sharie de Castro to discuss her recent visit to the UK. She shared insights from discussions with the London Violence Reduction Unit and the UK’s Department for Education on tackling crime and violence among young people. The NSC also received a presentation from Chief Education Officer Orlandette Crabbe on current safety strategies in schools and collaboration with law enforcement. The NSC expressed support for the Ministry of Education's efforts and committed to establishing a joint working group to advance initiatives before the Minister’s upcoming UK visit in May 2025.
Dr. Christine Hodge Releases New Book – Real Family Jokes Memories and unforgettable moments captured and shared through generations make the best stories. On Thursday, 20 November 2025, local retired educator, Dr. Christine D. Hodge of Ballast Bay, Tortola, celebrated with family, friends and well-wishers at the launch of her book entitled: “Real Family Jokes”. In this book, the author expresses these memories in the form of humour, culture and history.

The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission (BVITBFC) launched its summer marketing campaign in Puerto Rico with a BVI Full Moon Party on April 12 at Vivo Beach Club, Carolina. The event attracted over 800 guests and featured cultural performances, BVI-inspired cuisine, and travel raffles, promoting the BVI as an ideal summer destination. Premier Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley highlighted the BVI’s hospitality and invited attendees to future events, including “Xmas in July” in Virgin Gorda. The campaign aims to boost tourism from Puerto Rico, emphasizing the BVI’s unique offerings and global travel accolades.

Honourable Lorna Smith, OBE, leads a delegation to the Cayman Islands to study their business ecosystems like Cayman Enterprise City and Health City. The mission aims to learn best practices to improve the Virgin Islands’ business environment and economic diversification. The team will meet key officials and stakeholders, including government ministers and agency representatives. The Ministry of Financial Services, Economic Development and Digital Transformation oversees financial regulation and supports economic growth, financial inclusion, and consumer protection in the Virgin Islands.
Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Honourable Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley, reaffirmed the Virgin Islands’ strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and international financial standards following the visit of the UK’s Anti-Corruption Champion, Baroness Margaret Hodge, from 23–24 September 2025.
The Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) won the 2025 Inter-Secondary School Debates, defeating the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (VISTS). ESHS team members Auri-Ana ElShabbaz, Tyasia Cameron, and Syeisha Keith triumphed in the final debate on S.T.E.A.M. education, with Keith winning the overall best speaker award. VISTS received several awards, including second-best speaker by Kellycian Paul. An impromptu speech competition was also held, with Laicha Nguyen of St. George’s Secondary School taking first place.
