The Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) won the 2025 Inter-Secondary School Debates, defeating the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (VISTS). ESHS team members Auri-Ana ElShabbaz, Tyasia Cameron, and Syeisha Keith triumphed in the final debate on S.T.E.A.M. education, with Keith winning the overall best speaker award. VISTS received several awards, including second-best speaker by Kellycian Paul. An impromptu speech competition was also held, with Laicha Nguyen of St. George’s Secondary School taking first place. The Government of the Virgin Islands has officially implemented the Discretionary Powers Policy Guide to strengthen governance, transparency, and accountability. Approved by Cabinet in May, the guide responds to recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry (COI) Report. It provides clear criteria for exercising discretionary powers lawfully and fairly, aiming to reduce corruption and malpractice. Public officials are required to ensure proper control mechanisms are in place and decisions are based on reliable evidence. The Premier’s Office has developed a comprehensive plan, including training programs, to support the successful implementation of the policy. The government remains committed to fostering good governance and sustainable development.

On May 13, 2025, the Government of the Virgin Islands signed a $224,639.60 contract with Alvair Limited for consultancy services related to the engineering design and construction management of water mains and civil works for the Farmers’ Reservoir at Paraquita Bay. This 30-month project, led by the Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) and funded by the Government with the Premier’s Office as Ministry Partner, aims to address the long-standing water access issues affecting local farmers and enhance food security in the Territory. Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley emphasized the importance of moving from discussion to action to support agricultural productivity. RDA CEO Anthony McMaster highlighted the project’s economic and strategic value, encouraging local engagement as the initiative progresses.
