Seven Seas Water Group (SSWG) awarded the winners of the Prize for Water Science at the National Science Fair in recognition of World Water Day. Zara Pascoe from Cedar International School won in the Secondary Division for her project on marine pollution, while Daria Donovan and Brielle Williams from Ebenezer Thomas Primary School won in the Primary Division for their project on bacterial growth in reusable water bottles. The winners toured the Paraquita Bay Water Plant and received their prizes. Minister of Education, Hon. Sharie de Castro, praised the partnership between SSWG and the Ministry of Education, highlighting the importance of STEAM education and scientific inquiry.
The Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre is marking one month in its new home, continuing to bring transformative change to students, families, and educators following its historic opening on October 13. The newly rebuilt facility stands as the first purpose-built special education school in the OECS, a long-awaited milestone achieved through the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports in partnership with the Recovery and Development Agency, Unite BVI, the Maples Group, TigerQi Architecture and construction partner Autland Heavy Equipment Co. Ltd. The opening ceremony, which featured contributions from Government officials, regional partners, donors, and supporters celebrated the realisation of a decades-long vision to provide exceptional learners with a modern, inclusive space tailored to their needs.
The Department of Trade, Investment Promotion and Consumer Affairs successfully hosted its final Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Grant Award Ceremony for 2025 on Friday, 19 December, in Road Town, reaffirming the Government of the Virgin Islands’ commitment to supporting local entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable business development.
The Premier addresses the economic challenges the Virgin Islands faces due to global turbulence, particularly impacting the Caribbean. He announces changes to the Government to strengthen the response to these challenges. The Honourable Mrs. Lorna Smith, OBE, will return to the Government as Minister of State for Financial Services and Economic Development, responsible for financial services, economic diversification, investment, trade, and climate finance. The Honourable Karl Dawson will step down as Junior Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries but will continue to support the Premier in these areas and be nominated as Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly.
Premier of The Virgin Islands, Honourable Dr Natalio D. Wheatley, appeared before the United Kingdom House of Lords Constitution Committee on Wednesday, 11th February to give evidence as part of its review of the 2023 UK–Overseas Territories Joint Declaration. The document is a framework for a "modern partnership" based on shared democratic values, human rights, and the rule of law between the UK and its Overseas Territories.
