Government of the Virgin Islands commits to workforce development
The Department of Labour and Workforce Development is celebrating another successful outcome from its Internship and Professional Development Programme, following the full-time employment of a former intern who entered the workforce through the Department’s training and placement initiatives.
Mr. Rafael Del Rosario, who completed the Department’s Standard Workforce Readiness Training Programme, was placed with Harneys Fiduciary in 2025 as part of the Department’s structured internship programme. After demonstrating strong performance and professional growth, he was initially hired part-time and has now been retained as a full-time employee of the firm.
The Department says this achievement reflects the effectiveness of its workforce development framework, which prepares Virgin Islanders and Belongers with the skills, discipline and workplace readiness needed to transition successfully into long-term employment. This milestone reflects the Department’s ongoing work to ensure Virgin Islanders and Belongers are equipped with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in today’s labour market.
The Department has also received confirmations of continued private-sector support for the Internship and Professional Development Programme in 2026, which will allow more participants to benefit from real-world work experience and career-building opportunities.
The Department of Labour and Workforce Development remains committed to building a stronger, more resilient workforce through targeted training, employer partnerships, and meaningful job placements that translate directly into long-term employment.
