The Ministry of Health and Social Development has announced the appointment of Dr. Tavia Dawson as a Member of the Medical and Dental Council for the period 1 March 2026 to 28 February 2029.

Dr. Dawson, Managing Orthodontist and founder of BVI Orthodontics, brings over 15 years of professional experience in orthodontics in both the public and private sectors. Her career reflects a sustained commitment to advancing dental and orthodontic services within the Virgin Islands.

From 2007 to 2012, Dr. Dawson was instrumental in overseeing the Orthodontic Unit at the BVI Health Services Authority, where she contributed to strengthening the delivery of specialist orthodontic services in the public health system. She also served as President of the BVI Dental Association from 2020 to 2023, providing leadership and advocacy for dental professionals throughout the Territory.

Dr. Dawson holds a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Howard University. She further earned a Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopeadics from Tufts University, equipping her with advanced specialist training in orthodontic care.

Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley, welcomed the appointment, stating, “Dr. Dawson’s extensive experience, professional leadership, and dedication to high standards of care will be a valuable asset to the Medical and Dental Council.
