Friendly competition, laughter and community camaraderie filled the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium as the Carrot Bay Senior Engagement Programme “Creme of the Crop” emerged victorious in the Family Feud Seniors’ Edition, one of the signature activities for the 37th Anniversary of Senior Citizens’ Month.
The Creme of the Crop defeated the East End/Long Look Senior Engagement Programme “Rising Sun” in the final round of competition. The Oasis Seniors Programme from Cane Garden Bay also participated, adding energy and enthusiasm to the memorable event.
The Family Feud Seniors’ Edition showcased the vibrancy, wit and active engagement of the Territory’s senior citizens while fostering fellowship and social interaction among participants and supporters alike.
Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent Wheatley commended the seniors for their participation and continued contribution to the community.
Honourable Wheatley said, “Our seniors continue to inspire us through their wisdom, resilience and enthusiasm for life. Events such as the Family Feud Seniors’ Edition not only provide opportunities for recreation and fellowship, but also reinforce the importance of healthy and active ageing. I congratulate all participating teams, especially the Carrot Bay Senior Engagement Programme ‘Creme of the Crop’ on their well-deserved victory.”
Acting Chief Social Development Officer Ms Shirma George said the event highlighted the success of this year’s Senior Citizens’ Month celebrations and the importance of continued community engagement for seniors.
Ms George said, “The enthusiasm displayed by all participants demonstrates that our seniors remain active, engaged and deeply connected within their communities. The Department of Social Development is pleased to continue providing opportunities that encourage wellness, social interaction and meaningful participation among our elderly population.”
This year’s Senior Citizens’ Month is being celebrated under the theme “Champion Your Health” and has featured a number of successful activities throughout the month including the Opening and Declaration Service, Intergenerational Days in East End/Long Look and Carrot Bay, the Virgin Gorda Seniors’ Luncheon, Jost Van Dyke Seniors’ Funtastic Friday, the BVI Historical Sites Tour, Seniors’ Sports Day and the Virgin Gorda Elderly Home Open House and the Anegada Seniors’ Luncheon and Social.
Activities still to come include the Adina Donovan Home Open House on 27 May and the culminating Champion Your Health Parade and Wellness Fair on 29 May.
The Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Social Development Department continue to encourage the community to support and celebrate the Territory’s seniors throughout the remainder of the month’s activities.
