The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries is advising that the closed season for sea turtles is in effect from 1-2 April 2026 and 7 April to 30 November 2026.

During this period, it is illegal to catch, remove, possess, sell, or purchase any turtle or turtle products. This applies to all persons and vessels.

The closure covers Green and Hawksbill turtles, with a full moratorium on Leatherback and Loggerhead turtles.

Violators may face enforcement action.
