Release Date: 22 October, 2026

Livestock farmers and animal caretakers across the Territory will participate in a Livestock Deworming Workshop on Thursday, October 29 organised by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

The workshop will combine presentations and practical activities to help participants make informed parasite-control decisions, administer dewormers correctly and maintain effective treatment records.

Topics will include understanding livestock parasites, deciding when to deworm, and preventing resistance and reinfection. Practical stations will cover assessing animals, estimating body weight and calculating doses, administering dewormers, and recording treatments and withdrawal periods.

Effective parasite management supports animal health, welfare, and farm productivity. The workshop will emphasise responsible dewormer use, including appropriate treatment decisions and measures to reduce resistance development. Participants will also learn why withdrawal periods must be observed before meat or milk from treated animals enters the food supply.

The workshop will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Learning Resource Centre, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) and forms forms part of the department’s support for livestock producers through education and practical skills development.

Registration closes on Friday, October 23. Livestock farmers, livestock handlers, and interested persons are encouraged to contact the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries to register and obtain further information. The initiative forms part of the department’s support for livestock producers through education and practical skills development.
