The Hannah Hill Reservoir, which supports water distribution to Sea Cows Bay, Palestina, and Pock Wood Pond has been tested and is now recommissioned and distributing water to consumers in the surrounding areas.

Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer thanked the consumers for their patience and understanding as they experienced water interruptions while the reservoir was being maintained.

Honourable Rymer said, “We got to this point after rehabilitating the reservoir, doing our checks for leaks, also doing a shock treatment, checking the chlorine level. Water is now ready to distribute. We will continue to do the work to ensure that all the residents with our communities have access to water.”

Director of the Water and Sewerage Department Mr. Lyndon Hodge added that great progress is being made. He said the Water and Sewerage Department is working tirelessly towards delivering consistent water supply to the people of the Virgin Islands.

The reintegration of the Hannah Hill reservoir is a part of the Ministry of Communication and Works top priority projects that are being executed through the Water and Sewerage Department to address the water challenges that resulted in water being declared a national critical priority.

The reservoir in Hannah Hill has a capacity of approximately four hundred thousand (400,000) gallons of water that are now being distributed to consumers in the surrounding areas. Additional reservoirs on Tortola that have been repaired to date include one (1) in Zion Hill, two (2) in Carrot Bay, and one (1) in Long Bush. Reservoirs in areas such as Sabbath Hill, Balsam Ghut, Fort Hill, and Milton Hill on Virgin Gorda have been flagged for repairs.

The Water and Sewerage Department continues to ensure the provision of a continuous supply of safe, potable water and an environmentally sound sewerage disposal service efficiently and at affordable rates to all residents of the Virgin Islands.

Minister Rymer and Director Hodge also appeared The September 30th broadcast of the VI Voice where updates on the water infrastructure in the Territory were given as well as other subjects including road infrastructure and electricity. The full episode can be viewed on the Government of the Virgin Islands’ Facebook and YouTube pages at BVIGovernment and Government of the Virgin Islands.
