In a display of creativity, reflection, and growth, His Majesty’s Prison recently staged its First Annual Drama Exhibition, underscoring its continued commitment to rehabilitation and positive transformation within the correctional system.

The event brought together three groups of inmates: juvenile inmates Makori Stevens, Taheem Robinson, Deondre Fitz, and Demari Samuel; female inmate Jody Ann Thomas; and male inmates Malachy Payne, Shemar Richardson, Akeem Joseph, Kervin Rhymer, Vernon Smith, Korrey Stoutt, Keshawn Barronville, Zuri Reid, Lekhoy Hughes, and Deron Antoine. Through dramatic expression, participants demonstrated confidence, teamwork, discipline, commitment to personal growth all critical components of successful reintegration.

The exhibition marks an important milestone in the Prison’s expanding rehabilitation programme, which continues to provide structured opportunities for self-development and constructive engagement.

Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley, Minister for Health and Social Development, said the initiative reflects Government’s ongoing commitment to rehabilitation and reintegration.

Honourable Wheatley said, “Rehabilitation remains central to our mandate. The First Annual Drama Exhibition demonstrates how creative and structured programmes can positively influence behaviour, build confidence, and support personal transformation. Over the past two years, we have also witnessed the success of the Annual Prison Debating Competition, which has strengthened communication and critical thinking skills, as well as the revival of the Prison Basketball League last year, which promotes discipline, teamwork, and healthy engagement. These initiatives show that rehabilitation is not simply a concept, but a deliberate and sustained effort.”

Superintendent of Prisons, Jay Kendall, described the exhibition as a meaningful step forward in preparing inmates for reintegration into society.

Superintendent Kendall said, “This exhibition was more than a performance. It represented commitment, growth, and the willingness of our inmates to channel their energy into positive development. Alongside our Annual Debating Competition and the reintroduction of the Prison Basketball League, the Drama Exhibition forms part of a wider rehabilitative strategy focused on accountability, skill building, and personal change. We remain committed to creating opportunities that support successful reintegration and reduce recidivism.”

The Ministry of Health and Social Development commends the inmates, staff, and partners who contributed to the success of the First Annual Drama Exhibition and reaffirms its dedication to strengthening rehabilitative programming within His Majesty’s Prison.
