Statement by Junior Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Sustainable Development, Honourable Luce Hodge-Smith, MHA

On the Passing of Sasso

15 September 2025

On behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands, I extend sincere condolences to the family, friends and fans of the late Jeavon Sasso.

Sasso, as he was affectionately called, was a true Virgin Islands cultural icon. Born in the US Virgin Islands with BVI roots, he was a musical giant in his own right, working as a singer, songwriter, and recording artist.

For many years, Sasso contributed to the Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival, performing with such bands as Jam Band, Poizon Band, and Karnage Band, as well as under his own name.  His musical contributions and legacy will forever be remembered, as his music was well-received, appreciated, and enjoyed throughout the Virgin Islands.

The Greater Virgin Islands have lost a musical giant, whose death will sadly impact the entertainment world of both territories.

May his soul rest in peace.
