The Environmental Health Division (EHD) of the Ministry of Health and Social Development is advising consumers and food businesses of an active U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall involving Lior Gourmet Spices Cinnamon Ground Seasoning due to elevated levels of lead.

The recall was initiated by Galil Importing Corp. of Hauppauge, New York, following regulatory testing that identified elevated levels of lead in the affected product.

The recalled product is Lior Gourmet Spices Cinnamon Ground Seasoning, packaged in a transparent 90 g (3.2 oz) plastic container. The affected product bears UPC 794711005484 and Lot Code GAP11304.

The product was distributed in the United States between November 18, 2025 and September 7, 2026, including through distribution channels in Florida, New York and New Jersey.

Consumers, retailers, wholesalers and food businesses are advised to check their products and inventory for the affected cinnamon. The recalled product should not be consumed, sold, served or used. Anyone in possession of the product should remove it from use and dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase.

Lead exposure can have serious health effects, particularly with repeated exposure. Children and pregnant women are among those who may be particularly vulnerable to its effects.

Given the Territory's reliance on imported food products, the Division is also encouraging food businesses to review their inventory and supply records to determine whether they have received the affected product.

At this time, the EHD has not confirmed the presence of the recalled Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning in the British Virgin Islands. The advisory is being issued as a precautionary measure to protect public health.
