The Government of the Virgin Islands is highlighting another positive outcome of the Road Town Partnership Programme, a public-private partnership initiative established to enhance the appearance, functionality, and safety of the capital.

Under this programme, Ms. Nona Vanterpool, Owner and Managing Partner of Vanterpool Enterprises, has started a project to repair a banister along the roadway near Banco Popular. The banister sustained damage during the 2017 hurricane season.

Premier, Honourable Dr. Natalio D Wheatley commended Ms. Vanterpool for her proactive leadership and commitment to the Road Town Partnership Programme.

“This project exemplifies the spirit of partnership we envisioned for Road Town. I commend Ms. Vanterpool for taking this initiative. Her actions reflect pride not only in her business but in our capital as a whole. I encourage motorists and pedestrians to exercise care while traversing the area during the works, and I urge other businesses in Road Town to follow this example by investing in the upkeep of their buildings and surroundings,” the Premier stated.

Ms. Vanterpool noted that the project is particularly meaningful as her family’s business celebrates a significant milestone this year. “Our family has been a part of the Road Town business community for over five decades. In fact, this year marks our 55th anniversary. As a business operator in the capital, I believe it is important to take personal responsibility for the external appearance of my building and to contribute to making Road Town a place we can all be proud of, a place where residents and businesses feel comfortable walking and conducting business,” she said.

The Chair of the Road Town Partnership Committee is Jr. Minister for Culture and Tourism, Honourable Luce Hodge-Smith. She also lauded the initiative and underscored the importance of collaboration between government and the private sector.

“This is a strong example of corporate social responsibility at work. Government cannot do everything, and partnerships like these are essential as we continue to implement meaningful improvements across Road Town. We welcome the support of businesses and community members as we work together to improve the aesthetics and overall friendliness of the capital for residents and visitors alike,” the Jr. Minister said.

A committee of members from the government and private sector has been meeting to formulate a master plan for the improvement of the capital, Road Town. Further plans will be unveiled shortly.
