Mr. Frett said, “The meeting will bring together professionals from across the public and private sector. During the meeting we will discuss recent amendments to the Commercial Recreational Vessels Licensing Act, 1992, as well as ways as other options to continue to improve our maritime sector. The meeting will be streamed live to give the wider community a seat at the table, as we wish to hear their views and wish for them to witness what we are doing.”
The Government of the Virgin Islands amended the Commercial Recreational Vessels Licensing Act, 1992 which took effect on June 1, 2025. The amendment streamlined commercial recreational operations and increased safety in the Virgin Islands by making it mandatory for captains of larger vessels to be licensed and certified. The Act also balances operational freedom and regulatory measures aimed at strengthening The Virgin Islands ‘ position as one of the world’s premier sailing destinations.
