The Department of Human Resources has relaunched the Summer Apprenticeship Programme in the Public Service. The programme is designed to provide working opportunities for Virgin Islanders studying locally or abroad to gain experience.

This year with over 50 students registered, the programme aims at fostering early career development, talent, and raise awareness of the work in the Public Service.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sharleen DaBreo-Lettsome, MBE commented on the significance of the programme and its benefits to the students. Mrs. DaBreo-Lettsome, MBE said, “The programme is extremely beneficial for our students. It presents a new atmosphere for learning and developing their knowledge, skill and talent, while contributing to the Territory. It is our hope that the students will be inspired by the work of the Public Service, and eventually pursue a career in these critical fields.”

Ms. Cara Christopher, Deputy Director Human Resources (Ag.) said, “These programmes prepare our young people for the workforce while allowing the public service to benefit from new perspective, and rising talent. This allows them to gain a head start in their career, gaining knowledge and experience that can contribute to their studies. The Public Service presents a fresh experience through mentorship, skill building and an introduction to diverse career paths within the public sector.”

The programme spans from May to September 2025 during which individuals will work in various fields: Business and Finance, Engineering and Technology, Health and Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Communications and Public Relations.

The Government of the Virgin Islands remains committed to the development of students through opportunities for learning and experience.
