The Department of Waste Management in collaboration with the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force are investigating potential arson at the Anegada Dumpsite.
The fire occurred on Monday May 11 at around 5:00 p.m. To date the majority of the flames have been extinguished however lingering smoke remains in the area.
Director of Waste Management, Mr. Brian Davis is reminding the public that setting fires at the dumpsite is illegal and extremely dangerous. “This is not the first time this has happened,” the Director revealed and warned that persons found responsible for deliberately igniting fires will face criminal prosecution and other legal consequences.
Residents are advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary exposure to smoke, and report any suspicious activity immediately by contacting the department at 468-4934.
