Press Release
Organisation:
The safety and welfare of British nationals and British Overseas Territory Citizens (BOTCs) across the Middle East is our top priority.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is working around the clock to respond to escalations in the region and support those affected, including persons from the Virgin Islands who may be in the region.
The UK has launched Register Your Presence for several countries: Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Palestine, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. This allows the UK Government to share important updates directly with those in affected areas. This list is not exhaustive and will be kept under constant review.
This is a fast moving situation, so all British nationals and BOTCs, including Virgin Islanders, are encouraged to:
- Register your presence via the relevant country page on GOV.UK
- Pay close attention to FCDO travel advice
- Follow local authority instructions, including any shelter in place guidance
- Contact your airline or travel provider if you are unable to return to the UK
What You Need to Know:
- Register Your Presence helps the UK understand who is in affected areas and contact them directly. It is not a precursor to a consular assistance operation. UK consular teams are available 24/7.
- British nationals and BOTCs in Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Palestine, Qatar and the UAE should follow local news and the directions of local authorities.
- Sign up for FCDO travel advice email alerts and review guidance on dealing with crises overseas.
- Stay in touch with your airline, ensure travel documents are valid, keep departure plans under review, and avoid areas near military or security facilities.
