Organisation:
The Zonta Club of Tortola proudly held a symbolic pinning ceremony with members of the Fifth House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands, in support of the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
Speaker of the House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands, Honourable Corine George-Massicote said, “This brief and informal pinning ceremony, where each Member received an orange pin, symbolises our solidarity with the global campaign led by Zonta International. I am honoured to support this meaningful initiative and hopeful that it will become an annual tradition in the House of Assembly, strengthening our collective commitment as leaders of the Virgin Islands to end violence against women and girls.”
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign runs from 25th November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, through to 10th December, Human Rights Day. Launched in 1991 by the Centre for Women’s Global Leadership, the campaign is observed in over 180 countries worldwide.
Zonta International contributes annually under the banner “Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women,” promoting prevention and elimination of gender-based violence through advocacy, education, and community engagement. The orange ribbon worn during the campaign serves as a unifying symbol of hope for a future free from gender-based violence.
