Public debt is the total amount of money a country's government has borrowed to cover expenses when its spending exceeds its tax revenue, or to finance capital projects.  It includes loans from local banks and other financial organizations, and from financial institutions outside the Territory

How much is the BVI’s current public sector debt?

The BVI’s current public sector debt as of the end of September 2025 was US$145.95 million, of which US$107.23 million is for central government debt and US$38.72 million for guaranteed debt.

Is our debt getting bigger or smaller?

Body

It's getting smaller. The debt decreased by 18.7% from September 2023 to September 2025, and by 4.9% from September 2024 to September 2025.

No, we are paying less.  As of the end of September 2025, there was a 18.4% drop in debt servicing from September 2024.

How much fixed-rate debt do we have?

As of the end of September 2025, there was 20.8% of our public sector debt is at a fixed rate.

How much of our debt is maturing in more than ten years?

Body

At the end of September 2025, 91.7% of our public sector debt will be maturing in the long-term, more than ten years.
