The BVI Airports Authority is celebrating the professional achievements of four team members who have completed advanced aviation training. Duty Managers Paulette Cruz and Rikejah Fahie earned the prestigious International Airport Professional (IAP) designation, while Tristan Maduro and Matai Frett completed their Aerodrome and Approach Control Diplomas, moving closer to becoming certified Air Traffic Controllers. Leadership praised the milestone as a reflection of the Authority’s commitment to excellence, continuous learning, and world-class service.

The Prison Basketball League at His Majesty’s Prison concluded with Team Echo winning the championship. The initiative, run in partnership with the BVI Amateur Basketball Association, promotes rehabilitation through sports. Lecoy Hughes was named MVP and top rebounder, while Rudy Vanterpool scored the most points. Superintendent Jay Kendall and Health Minister Hon. Vincent O. Wheatley praised the league for fostering personal growth and teamwork. The Virgin Islands Government has introduced a digital Embarkation/Disembarkation (ED) Card system, effective from January 1. This new system, led by Acting Chief Immigration Officer Mrs. Nadia Demming-Hodge, aims to streamline traveler processing and improve data collection for border security and tourism policies. Travelers can complete the ED Card online at bviedcard.gov.vg up to 72 hours before travel. Upon completion, they will receive an email with a barcode for presentation to Immigration and Customs. The Department of Immigration plans to further enhance services, including initiatives for charter vessels and aircrafts to reduce wait times.

Minister Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley highlighted the importance of cervical cancer screening and early detection during Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. He urged women aged 21 to 65 to schedule regular screenings every 3-5 years. The Ministry of Health is promoting prevention, early detection, and education to combat cervical cancer. Dr. Arliene T. Penn, in partnership with Unite BVI, is offering free screenings until January 31. Cervical cancer is a leading cause of death for women globally, with higher mortality rates in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Ministry is committed to improving public health.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is working around the clock to respond to escalations in the region and support those affected, including persons from the Virgin Islands who may be in the region. The UK has launched Register Your Presence for several countries: Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Palestine, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. This allows the UK Government to share important updates directly with those in affected areas. This list is not exhaustive and will be kept under constant review.

The Virgin Islands will host the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) 2025 Lineworkers Symposium and Rodeo for the first time next weekend. The three-day event will bring together 33 skilled utility professionals from across the Caribbean to showcase their technical abilities and safety practices. The opening ceremony, set for April 25 at Eileen Parsons Auditorium, will feature remarks from government officials and cultural performances. A March Pass and Rodeo opening ceremony will follow on Sunday. The BVI will be represented by both senior and junior teams, including past competition winners. Held under the theme “Informed. Empowered. Safe.”, the event highlights the Territory’s dedication to improving infrastructure and regional collaboration.
