Government Launches Territory-Wide Training Series for Farmers and Fishers

The Premier’s Office is spearheading a series of one-day learning and development training events for farmers and fishers across the Territory from 27-30 October 2025, building on successful discussions earlier this month.

Farmers and Fishers from Tortola, Anegada, Virgin Gorda, and Jost Van Dyke, will focus on modern farm safety, occupational health, maritime safety, risk management, and sustainable financial management. They will gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experience to enhance their professional practices and promote safer, more efficient operations within their respective industries.

Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Carolyn Stoutt-Igwe, said: “the training initiative underscores the Government’s commitment to strengthening the agriculture and fisheries sectors in the Virgin Islands. Government, through the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, is focusing on boosting the capacity, safety, and sustainability of these important sectors.” She added: “Therefore, the sessions are designed to equip farmers and fishers with practical tools and strategies to improve workplace safety, manage operational risks, and strengthen compliance with industry standards.”

The Permanent Secretary said the Premier’s Office remains committed to empowering local farmers and fishers with the knowledge and resources necessary to build a safer, more resilient, and more sustainable future.
