The Government of the Virgin Islands has announced the launch of VI Talent Connect, a programme led by the Department of Human Resources with the aim of recruiting qualified Virgin Islanders and Belongers for key leadership and hard to fill roles across the Public Service.

Led by the Department of Human Resources, VI Talent Connect will establish and maintain a talent pipeline of professionals, students and graduates whose skills and experience align with the Government’s current and anticipated workforce needs. The programme will combine targeted outreach, personal engagement and coordinated candidate support to strengthen recruitment for critical, senior, specialised, priority and hard-to-fill positions.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor Mrs. Sharleen DaBreo-Lettsome, MBE said that VI Talent Connect creates a direct pathways for qualified Virgin Islanders abroad or at home to join the Public Service and make valuable contributions to the development of the Territory She said, “As persons in the Public Service begin to transition to retirement, it is increasingly important that we take the necessary strides to ensure qualified Virgin Islanders and Belongers have the opportunity to step into key roles in the Public Service. VI Talent Connect gives us an engine to be more intentional about identifying those needs and reaching Virgin Islanders and Belongers who have developed valuable expertise, whether overseas or locally.

As part of the initial launch, the Department of Human Resources has highlighted a select group of positions that are currently being advertised and for which suitably qualified Virgin Islanders and Belongers in the diaspora and professionals locally.

Acting Deputy Director of Human Resources, Ms. Cara Christopher said the new approach recognises that highly qualified professionals are not necessarily searching for employment at the same time that a vacancy becomes available.

Deputy Director of Human Resources, Ms. Cara Christopher said, “Through this programme, the Department of Human Resources hopes to connect Virgin Islanders and Belongers with key roles in the Public Service through an efficiently designed system that prioritises continuous communication, support and assistance from first contact to the first day on the job. We’re elated to create targeted opportunities for Virgin Islands to serve at home.”

The programme will also provide prospective candidates with clearer information about career opportunities, recruitment requirements, remuneration and benefits, and, for persons considering returning to the Territory, practical information about relocation and returning home.
