Embedded in this is the importance of ensuring our higher education learning institutions are operating at international standards not only to accommodate our local population, but to also attract regional and international students as the Government looks towards strengthening our economy.
HIGHER EDUCATION LICENSING BOARD
The Higher Education Licensing Board is committed to considering and reviewing all applications submitted for the establishment of institutions of higher learning in the Territory. The established requirements of the Board, provides for licensed and accredited schools the opportunity to offer programmes of study within the Virgin Islands. The Government, through the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports is seeking qualified persons to fill the following positions in accordance with the Higher Education Licensing Act, 2016:
1. Legal practitioner with not less than five years’ experience;
2. A representative of civil society with not less than five years’ experience in finance or accounting;
3. Two representatives of civil society with higher education expertise; and
4. A representative of civil society with business or commerce expertise.
BOARD MEMBER
Persons applying to serve on the Higher education Licensing Board should have the professional competencies that exemplify integrity, respect and a balance of skills and experience that match the purpose and values of the Board. Persons should possess abilities of:
a) Higher Education expertise
b) Finance and/or Accounting experience
c) Business and/or commerce expertise
d) Legal or Administrative experience
THE IDEAL CANDIDATES SHOULD EMBODY/FULFILL THE FOLLOWING:
• Be able to attend meetings either in person or virtually
• Possess strong leadership skills
• Show a clear understanding for the development of Higher Education for the Territory
• Share recommendations to improve the work of the Board
• Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work effectively and collaboratively with all stakeholders.
• Willing to make a professional commitment to the Board in carrying out its vision and mission and actively contribute to discussions on related topics
• Demonstrate a commitment to confidentiality, integrity, manage complexity and act decisively
• Ensure all Board recommendations are carried out and that actions to achieve the Board goals are successfully executed
