Press Release
Release Date: 20 November, 2025

The Government of the Virgin Islands is advising the public of a fraudulent website, www.bvima.uk, which falsely presents itself as affiliated with the Virgin Islands Shipping and Maritime Authority (VISMA) and the Government of the Virgin Islands.

The website, along with its linked page, bvima.uk/registration, refers to the BVI Tourism Act, 2024, and claims that visitors are required to enter personal information. The Government of the Virgin Islands has no association with this website, and no such visitor registration requirement exists.

Preliminary reviews indicate that the site may be attempting to harvest personal data from unsuspecting users.

Public Advised to Exercise Extreme Caution

Residents, businesses, and visitors are urged to:

• Avoid clicking on unfamiliar links or websites claiming government affiliation without verification.

• Exercise caution when opening emails, especially those requesting personal information, payments, or login credentials.

• Verify official information only through government-owned websites ending in .gov, .vg, or other established official channels.

• Report suspicious websites, emails, or digital activity to the Government's Department of Information Technology (DoIT)

Ongoing Investigation

Relevant government departments have been notified, and steps are being taken to file appropriate reports with international cybersecurity and anti-fraud authorities. The Government of the Virgin Islands is actively monitoring the situation.
