The Government of the Virgin Islands has announced that Florida Aqua Store, the specialised contractor contracted to rehabilitate five critical reservoirs across the Territory, will commence repairs on the Hannah Hill reservoir shortly. The contractor has commenced mobilisation and is scheduled to arrive on island on Wednesday 5th August 2026. 

The contract, valued at one million, nine hundred and seventy-two thousand, two hundred and twenty-two dollars ($1,972,222.00), was signed between the Government and the contractor in January 2026, with mobilisation originally anticipated for mid-July. However, delays in the shipping of specialised materials and equipment shifted the contractor's arrival to early August.

The repair programme will proceed in phases, with the Hannah Hill tank as the first priority. Following its completion, work will advance to:

• Fort Hill
• Sabbath Hill
• Minton Hill, Virgin Gorda
• Balsam's Ghut

The Ministry of Communication will be working to maintain continuous flow through the distribution network during the first phase. The ministry is however notifying residents at higher elevations at Hannah Hill who rely most on stored pressure, may experience reduced water availability as the reservoir itself will be offline for rehabilitation. Affected customers are advised to store sufficient water in advance and to monitor ministry updates closely. This is a temporary and necessary step to ensure the long-term integrity of the tank, and further information will be shared as work progresses.

This reservoir repair project is the first major phase of Government's multi-year Water Infrastructure Action Plan. The ministry states that it recognises the acute strain the Territory's water system is facing which include, recurring pipe failures, insufficient storage to weather dry spells, and the daily uncertainty of an overtaxed network. These it adds are not distant historical problems; they are present realities, and Government hears the community's frustration and shares its urgency.

The Government of the Virgin Islands recognises that patience is a heavy ask, particularly when water is scarce, and does not take residents' understanding for granted. As work progresses through each phase, the public will be provided with regular, site-specific updates and as much advance notice as possible of any service interruptions.

This project is part of a larger journey toward resolving the Territory's systemic water challenges. The ministry thanks residents for their continued patience as it works towards ensuring that every citizen has access to an efficient and reliable water supply.
