The Safe Haven Transitional Centre under the Ministry of Health and Social Development, has announced the return of its community-driven Soup Kitchen initiative.
The Soup Kitchen offers free warm bowls of soup to vulnerable individuals within the Virgin Islands community and will take place on Wednesday, July 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Safe Haven Transitional Centre in Johnson’s Ghut, located behind Davis Funeral Home.
Director of the Safe Haven Transitional Centre Mrs. Nellville George-Bronstorph emphasised the significance of the event, stating that the Soup Kitchen is more than just a meal. Mrs. George-Bronstorph said the initiative is a gesture of compassion and a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s life.
The Director added, “Many individuals in our community face challenges that are often invisible to the rest of us—whether it's homelessness, food insecurity, or simply feeling alone. Through this initiative, we are not only offering a warm bowl of soup, but we are extending dignity, care and a sense of belonging. We want every person who walks through our doors to feel seen, valued and supported. I encourage the public to help us spread the word and reach those who could truly benefit from this act of love and community spirit."
Members of the public who are aware of someone in need are encouraged to refer or accompany them to the centre to receive a nourishing meal and a warm welcome.
Residents who wish to assist someone in need are asked to contact the centre at 468-5815 as every bowl of soup served is an opportunity to uplift someone’s day and foster community care.
Officers from the ministry and the Safe Haven Transitional Centre look are looking forward to welcoming all who attend and invites the wider community to join in this meaningful effort to uplift others.
The Ministry of Health and Social Development remains committed to improving the health and social well-being of the people of the Virgin Islands.
