Message on Hurricane Danny
Acting Premier, Hon. Ronnie Skelton
August 21, 2015

Dear Residents and Visitors,

As you are aware Hurricane Danny is approaching the Virgin Islands, and while it is still more than one thousand miles south east of the Territory, forecasters are predicting that we would be impacted by tropical force winds by Monday or Tuesday.

It is anticipated that the Territory could experience flooding, mudslides and power outages due to heavy rain and high winds. It is therefore important that we all prepare for each of these hazards. I strongly urge individuals, families, businesses and mariners to take this time to secure your homes and businesses and boats. Make sure that you have an emergency kit well stocked with water, batteries, flashlights and non-perishable items.

My Government will mobilise all necessary resources to ensure the continuity of business and the orderly running of the Territory. Our resilience will strongly depend on how well we are all prepared. Remember that careful preparations can make a huge difference.

The Department of Disaster Management has recently issued some very practical and lifesaving hurricane preparedness tips; I urge you to take heed and use them to guide you in safeguarding your businesses and homes.

Please also stay tuned for further updates and alerts from the National Emergency Operations Centre, local media and cellphone providers.

Let us be prepared.

Thank you.
