An agricultural production survey has been launched to better understand the types and quantities of agricultural produce grown in the Territory.

In a recent sitting of the House of Assembly, Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley urged all farmers, including commercial, semi-commercial or backyard gardeners, to participate in the exercise. He emphasised that this information would provide Government with valuable insights as they continue to support the development of local food production.

Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, Mr. Theodore James explained that the survey is also a precursor to site visits to farmers throughout the Territory beginning in September and will support the restoration of extension services. He added, “We know our farmers are producing food, but we do not know how much. Data from the survey will provide the necessary baseline data that is lacking to support policy decisions.”

To access the survey, persons can visit bit.ly/agriproductionbvi. The survey will be available until August 31.
