An additional 2,000 AstraZeneca vaccines arrived in the Territory on August 31 as part of the United Kingdom Government’s commitment to the VI’s vaccination programme.

His Excellency the Acting Governor, David Archer, Jr. and Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Carvin Malone received the vaccines at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands.

To date, the total number of vaccines received from the UK is 37,040 which the Acting Governor believes has contributed significantly to the overall health of the Territory’s citizens. He noted that it is important that everyone remain responsive in taking the vaccine so that assistance can continue to be provided.

The Acting Governor said, “The UK’s commitment to the VI’s overall health is evident as we continue working together to ensure that our citizens are protected from the effects of the Coronavirus. It is important to note that while we continue to receive assistance, we must do our part and take the vaccine so that we can continue to receive assistance.”

Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Carvin Malone also expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom for their assistance and commitment to mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Territory. He expressed that the Territory is not out of the woods and every effort should be made to ensure that citizens and residents are vaccinated so that the VI can arrive at herd immunity.
