Commencing May 1, persons in the Territory will see an increase in the fees for Apostilles and Notarial Acts.
The Cabinet of the Virgin Islands in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3(1) of the Act, made the Statutory Rates, Fees and Charges (Amendment of Schedule) Order, 2020 on April 13, 2020 to amend Parts 37 and 42 of the Schedule respectively. The fee for Apostilles was increased from $40 to $50 and the fee for Notarial Acts was increased from 18 cents to $1.00. The Order was published in the Gazette on April 14, 2020. Apostille fees were last increased in 2003 from $25 to the present $40.
A total of 42,550 Apostilles were processed in 2019, which contributed $1,708,943.12 to the Territory’s purse.
An Apostille is a document that is issued by a government in accordance with the Hague Convention that certifies that a document has been signed by a notary public for use in another country.
