Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley has commended the Belmont Association for its commitment to assist with the needs of the Leonora Delville Primary School (LDPS).

The association which adopted the school as a parent sponsor joins the Neville Group of Companies and the New Life Baptist Church as fellow sponsors in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture’s Adopt-A-School Programme.

Honourable Wheatley said, “Our children are worth the investment. When you invest in children you invest in the future and I want to acknowledge your commitment. Thank you so much members of the Belmont Association, and all those involved.”

The Adopt-A-School programme was established in 2007 by then Minister for Education and now Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie. The Premier commended the association for the things that they are doing including the cleanup of the Belmont area and adopting the school.

The Premier said, “Although it seems like a donation to the school, it is actually a donation to the community, keeping our students in school and our community crime free.”

Meanwhile, Belmont Association Representative, Mrs. Amy Dorigan stated that the association is pleased to give back to the community in this way and that they will remain committed to the school.

“We are inclined to improving the learning opportunities here at the Leonora Delville Primary School and we are happy to be formerly adopting the school,” Mrs. Dorigan said.

Principal Mrs. Pearlette Frazer-Smith promised an improvement in learning with the partnership. “The students will benefit, the teachers will benefit, the parents will benefit and the community on a whole. We thank the Belmont Association,” She added.

A cheque of 13 thousand dollars and books were presented to the school during a ceremony held for the occasion earlier today.

After the devastation of the 2017 hurricanes, several schools received aid through the Adopt-A-School Programme.

Chairman and Director of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mrs. Brenda Lettsome-Tye said a campaign has been launched to revitalise the programme and reestablish past sponsors for schools. Parents and partner sponsors are encouraged to reconnect with the programme which is a public private partnership and is also an opportunity for businesses in the community to act on their corporate, social, community responsibility by adopting a school while positively impacting the lives of young students in the Territory.
