Small businesses and residents affected by COVID-19 can now register for the BVI Electricity Corporation’s COVID-19 Amnesty Programme as part of the Government of the Virgin Islands Economic Response Package.
General Manager of the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC), Mr. Leroy A. E. Abraham, has outlined the electricity bill amnesty conditions and added that applicants registering for the programme must have all bills paid up to April 2020.
Mr. Abraham said, “As we work together to manage, conserve and stay within the boundaries of this initiative, there will be a cap of $80 for domestic customers and a cap of $150 for small businesses for bills for the months of May, June and July 2020. Bills over the caps must be paid prior to continuing in the programme.”
The General Manager said the programme allows for one account per applicant and once the application is approved, only the bills received for the months of May, June and July will apply.
Persons can apply from June 3 to June 15 online by downloading forms at bvielectricity.com or at the BVI Electricity offices located at Long Bush, Tortola; Virgin Gorda, Anegada Power Station and Jost Van Dyke District office.
Forms can be submitted at the BVIEC’s offices at Long Bush, Tortola and Virgin Gorda or via email at amnesty@bvielectricity.com Applicants must include all supporting documents with their application in order for it to be considered including their driver’s licence, social security card, National Health Insurance card and original letter from employer stating the reason for unemployment or reduced hours for individuals.
Small businesses must include copies of their current trade licence and either a good standing certificate from the Social Security Board or a good standing certificate from the Inland Revenue Department.
