Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent Wheatley highlighted the importance of the initiative in a statement to observe Caribbean Wellness Day with the theme, “Power Through Collective Action.”

Honourable Wheatley said he was excited with the launch of the initiative designed to improve the health and well-being of the people of the Virgin Islands community.

“The initiative was born out of the remarkable success of Caribbean Moves in other countries and our experience from the successful BVI Run/Walk Program from 2015,” the minister said. He added, “The BVI Moves programme will be implemented using a three-pronged approach by establishing partnerships with communities, schools and workplaces.”

Honourable Wheatley is also calling for the public’s support to ensure the success of the programme.

“Our mission is clear, but we cannot achieve it alone. We need the support of every individual, family, and community member across the BVI. We want to especially invite our private sector partners to join us and our community walking warriors to set an example as we revitalise movement in our community.”

He added, “BVI Let’s Move Together, towards a healthier Virgin Islands. Together, we can create an environment that fosters healthy habits and ensures a brighter, healthier future for all.”

The BVI Moves programme is designed to promote regular physical activity, encourage healthy eating as the foundation for good health and raise awareness to reduce non communicable disease risk factors.
