Press Release
Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) Mrs. Dona Regis-Prosper paid a courtesy call to Acting Premier Honourable Kye Rymer while on an official visit to the Territory this week.
Honourable Kye Rymer welcomed Mrs. Regis-Prosper and emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean Tourism Organisation.
Honourable Rymer highlighted the Virgin Islands' dedication to tourism and said that the Government is ensuring that it continues to enhance the destination's appeal. He expressed enthusiasm in working with the CTO in areas such as research, data collection, and marketing, to promote the beauty of the Virgin Islands.
Mrs. Regis-Prosper said it was wonderful to be back in the Virgin Islands which she considers home having lived in the Territory for four (4) years where she served within the cruise sector.
Mrs. Regis-Prosper said that it was wonderful to see the growth and the development in the Virgin Islands, particularly in airlift as this is significant as it relates to the development of any destination.
The Secretary General added that in her discussions with the Acting Premier, there were discussions on closer collaboration with the CTO in areas such as product development, training, and market intelligence so that informed decisions can be made.
Mrs. Regis-Prosper also mentioned that although the islands in the Caribbean are singular destinations, when they come together as a Caribbean region, there is a lot of strength in that collaboration.
The Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), is the region’s tourism development agency, with twenty-five (25) Dutch, English and French country members and a myriad of private sector allied members. The CTO’s vision is to position the Caribbean as the most desirable, year-round, warm weather destination. Its purpose is leading sustainable tourism – ‘One sea, One voice, One Caribbean.’
The Government of the Virgin Islands continues to serve as the focal point for coordinating cross-sectorial policies and programmes and promoting the sustainable development of the Virgin Islands to ensure a well-informed, prosperous, cohesive and stable society.
