Former Assistant Cabinet Secretary Dr. Albert L. Thompkins has been appointed as the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Counselor.
Dr. Thompkins will be assigned to the Department of Human Resources, Government of the Virgin Islands and will perform confidential intakes and screening with individual employees and departments for work and non-work related issues and conflicts. He will also triage and review intakes in consultation with supervisors to resolve issues.
His other duties include coordinating, planning and scheduling client appointments, mediation, and department presentations in addition to training and other related functions in an efficient, timely and professional manner.
The EAP Counselor will ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the programme by managing the daily operations of the unit. The office also provides frontline assessments, counseling and referral services by helping employees, supervisors and department heads settle work-related conflicts.
Dr. Thompkins has more than 15 years experience in counseling and policy analysis and is said to have a reputation for consistently meeting challenging organisational goals and objectives with unequaled success.
He has served as the Assistant Cabinet Secretary in the Cabinet Office over the last four years and as the Supervisor of Case Management at Mental Health Cooperative Incorporated.
Dr. Thompkins holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics and Finance from the Tennessee State University, a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Texas at Austin.
