The Purcell Estate Community Centre was renamed and dedicated after the late Christiana and Gertrude Warner, in recognition of their contributions to the Purcell Estate community. During his remarks, Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton said that Gertrude and her mother Christiana provided housing to the less fortunate and had leased and sold land to the majority of the homeowners in Purcell Estate at affordable costs. He also highlighted that the Government of the Virgin Islands had made significant investment by constructing and recently repairing the building and urged the audience that its upkeep required a community effort. A bouquet presentation was made to Mary Flemming, the daughter of Gertrude Warner and photographs of the two matriarchs were unveiled to be hung within the centre’s hall in their remembrance. Other speakers were Tammi David who gave a reflection on Purcell Estate and Pastor Melvin Herbert of the Upper Room Victory Church.  Deputy Secretary for the Ministry of Health and Social Development, Tasha Bertie chaired the ceremony which took place on July 10, 2015.
