The Government of the Virgin Islands is exploring the prospect   of the BVI being a hub for Financial Technology.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie said the move to digitisation is happening globally and that the BVI has an opportunity to create an economic driver to stimulate the economy.

He said this new wave has made a big impact on economies and all sectors including Government, marine, real estate, banking, agriculture and commerce.

Premier Fahie said, “My Government is very keen to develop this area and hopes to increase awareness with all stakeholders as they play a role in the thinking, shaping and deciding what the BVI's focus should be for development.”

The BVI's Digital Economy symposium is a one day event to invoke discussion on this new driver of development for the Virgin Islands. The symposium will bring together stakeholders from the public sector, private sector, banking, financial services commission, information communication and technology, legal and compliance to participate in the discussion.

The symposium will also feature presentations from experts in the Digital arena.  “We wanted major players in the digital industry to champion the opportunities and share the potential for the BVI becoming a hub for Financial Technology as we aim to transform into a digital economy,” Honourable Fahie explained.           

The presenters are Chief Executive Officer of SkyRoMa Consultants Rosita Scatliffe- Thompson who specializes in cryptocurrency and Blockchain.

Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers Zia Paton is an expert in institutional strengthening, strategy planning, finance function effectiveness, change management, business process reengineering and procurement including public-private partnerships.

Technology Strategist and Innovator Murthy Valluri has over 30 years of industry experience in technology strategy development, business transformation, new business model development leveraging latest technologies and enterprise architecture.

Shankar Rachakonda has over 30 years of experience in Information Technology, Engineering, Software Development and related areas and specialises in IT strategy, Enterprise/Systems architecture; industry specialties include Banking Finance, Telecom, Health Hi Tech and Government.

Microsoft’s Global Creative Strategy Director for nearly 10 years David Pugh- Jones also has over 25 years of experience as a brand advertising consultant and creative strategy architect.

Sanjay Jadhav has 20 years of experience as a technology leader with an extensive career record in running start-ups, managing stakeholder satisfaction and leading and mentoring teams with a DevOps culture.

The forum will be on Tuesday, December 3 at Maria by the Sea from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Persons who are desirous of participating in the symposium are asked to express their interest by sending an email to poevents@gov.vg.
