Minister of Transportation Works and Utilities, Honourable Kye Rymer has said that the importance and value of administrative roles are sometimes understated.

While paying tribute to workers on Administrative Professionals Day on April 24 Honourable Rymer said he is privileged to recognise the hard working professionals that work in administration, both in the public and private sectors.

National Professional Secretaries Week and National Secretary's Day was created in 1952 through the work of Mr. Harry F. Klemfuss of Young and Rubicam, a marketing and communications company. Klemfuss recognised the importance and value of the secretarial position to a company, business and management.  His goal was to encourage more women to become secretaries.

The name of this day has changed and evolved over the past few decades to terms such as "Administrative Professionals" and "Executive Administrators (or Admins)".

The terms are said to mean different roles and responsibilities in various companies and organisations.  Both are broader terms that encompass more positions than the original "Secretarial" role.

Note: Young and Rubicam (Y&R) is a marketing and communications company specializing in advertising, digital and social media, sales promotion, direct marketing and brand identity consulting. It is a member of WPP, a British multinational advertising and public relations company. Founded 1923, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.
