Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer has said the reintroduction of international flights at the Captain Auguste George International Airport on Anegada is a testament to the government's commitment to revitalising the local economy.

Honourable Rymer said the Government of the Virgin Islands is unwavering in its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety and regulation to ensure a smooth and secure travel experience for all passengers.

Honourable Rymer said, “This initiative not only highlights our dedication to expanding air connectivity but also underscores our commitment to fostering economic growth in the Virgin Islands.”

The airport welcomed international flights from San Juan and St. Thomas on March 23, facilitated by Fly BVI and Island Birds, two locally owned and operated charter companies. The minister said this significant milestone not only enhances connectivity and accessibility for visitors to the neighboring island but also underscores the Government's dedication to bolstering tourism across the sister islands.

Honourable Rymer said, “The inclusion of foreign flights into Anegada signifies a strategic move to showcase the natural beauty and warm hospitality of the island, thereby attracting more visitors.” He added that granting access to international aircraft from key hubs like San Juan, St. Thomas, and St. Martin, opens up new opportunities for the local businesses on Anegada to thrive.

The Ministry of Communications and Works remains dedicated to ensuring the continued development and maintenance of public infrastructure in keeping with international standards so that public utilities are reliable and affordable in support of an enhanced community life for every resident and visitor in the Virgin Islands.
