Mrs. Marsha Smith has been appointed as the Deputy Supervisor of Elections for the upcoming General Election scheduled for February 25.

On February 4, by virtue of the power and authority vested in the Deputy Governor under Regulation 2 of the Public Service (Delegation of Powers) Regulations, 2019 (S.I. 2019 No. 8) and of all other powers and authorities thereunto enabling, the Deputy Governor appointed Mrs. Smith as the Deputy Supervisor of Elections.

In accordance with Section 4(2) of the Elections Act, , the Deputy Supervisor of Elections shall assist the Supervisor of Elections in the discharge of his or her functions and perform such duties or exercise such powers as the Supervisor of Elections may direct.  Her appointment takes effect from January 28 until April 28, 2019.

Mrs. Smith previously served the Government of the Virgin Islands as the Chief Training Officer (later reclassified as Human Resources Manager, Learning and Development) attached to the Department of Human Resources, where she directed the learning and development portfolio for the Public Service. 

She also served the Training Division as the Assistant Human Resources Manager and as Senior Administrative Officer.

Mrs. Smith holds a Master of Arts degree in Human Resources Development and Consulting (with Distinction) from Lancaster University in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Administration from Temple University in Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Association for Talent Development, the Society for Human Resource Management and the National Society for Collegiate Scholars.

Other election officers including presiding officers poll clerks and technicians will be appointed in the coming weeks in preparation for the February 25 General Election.
